Busch Gardens Williamsburg

Acclaimed as America’s loveliest theme park, Busch Gardens Williamsburg is a beauty that also houses a few beasts within her gates. Nationally ranked with three of the top ten roller coasters in the U.S. are the Griffon, Loch Ness Monster and Alpengeist, visitors should also watch out for the Apollo’s Chariot, a breath-taking purple monster coaster that towers over the parking area.

The theme of the park is based on travel between little European-themed villages. Upon entry guests find themselves in an English township with shops, a clock tower and Globe Theater which currently hosts Sesame Street 4-D movie. The next stop is Scotland and the Clydesdale barns and of course, the Loch Ness Monster. From there one can go towards Ireland with its great shows and Corkscrew Hill adventure, or to Italy with the Roman Rapids, Escape to Pompeii and Apollo' Chariot among a host of other rides and games. Another twist is the path could take guests to Germany to Alpengeist, Festhaus or the adventurous Curse of DarKastle! Or sail on the sky lift to France and New France that hosts the Griffon, the ever popular Log Flume along with shows, shops and more. All kinds of activities fill the park’s villages, including a new childrens venue, Sesame Street: Forest of Fun adding more kid space along with the ever-favorite, Land of the Dragons.

In keeping with the European theme, a creative menu based on each country's cuisine, makes dining at Busch a very interesting prospect. With Italian pastas in Italy, Irish corned beef in Ireland, German specialties at the Festhaus and French pastries in France, guests will find salads, sandwiches and full course meals as well as vegetarian offerings in most locations.

The Park is open from mid-March to the end of October with the popular Howl-O-Scream events closing out the regular season.

Christmas Town - A Busch Gardens Celebration

New for 2009, Busch Gardens will be open on select evenings from late November through December offering up a holiday celebration of lights and entertainment. The Italy, Festa Italia and Forest of Fun sections will be closed. However most of the park, with it’s quaint old-country ambience, will be open offering a holiday Winter Wonderland of fun. Due to weather conditions, most coasters will be closed, but the Griffon is scheduled to make runs, if weather permits.

Plans for each “village” include: England - A live New Holiday Show in the Globe Theatre, special shopping with traditional English gifts and sweets and warm comfort foods in the eateries. In Scotland - Clydesdales and the Holiday express train will be ferrying guests through a fantasy lit forest to New France and baagain ck to Scotland. Ireland will host a “Midnight Clear” concert program and a Castle O’Sullivan’s Buffet with Santa. In France look for an Ice Village and live Penguins along with the raging Griffon. There will be an Elf Village in Rhinefeld along with Santa’s workshop and candy decorations, Germany is presenting “Rejoice Light Show” and a “Deck the Halls” presentation in the Festhaus. The German food in the Festhaus will be accompanied by holiday-related American favorites including sliced roast turkey, baked ham and sweet potato casserole.

Expect the sweets and gifts sold in each “locality” to have, in many cases, a connection to the “country of origin”, so unique holiday items may be found for those special people on your Christmas list!
